President Speaks:

It is a pleasure to be the initiating officer of this group of candidates as members of the Iota

Chapter of the Kappa Pi International Art Honors Society. Each of you have been invited to

become a member of Kappa Pi because of your special qualifications in art. You are to be

congratulated for your achievements which have resulted in this recognition.

You have been invited to join an international organization with over 300 chapters installed on

college campuses and universities across the United States and around the world.

Faculty Sponsor: 

Members of the Kappa Pi International Honors Art Society are committed to truth, sincerity,

excellence and achievement within a life enriched by art. In addition to this commitment of

ethics and passion, we your professors at Culver-Stockton College stand before you today to

share with you the Light. It is out of this passion for artistic expression that we share the light

within this group. We honor you as the next generation carrying the light of artistic expression

and scholarship to the world. (Light the main candle and illuminate the room)

Vice President:

You initiates in your quest for excellence in art have learned many lessons. We trust these

lessons will remain with you throughout your lives as a foundation for your work. Your training

will have given you insights which we hope you will share with others. Perspective in one’s life

has a role even more significant than that which applies to the studio.

Your selection for membership in Kappa Pi is both an honor and a privilege. We are pleased

that you, by your presence here, have accepted the honor of membership as well as the

responsibilities of membership in this honors society which exemplifies excellence and

leadership.

Faculty Sponsor: 

Officers and initiates light your candles from ours. This symbolizes our trust in you, by passing

on the light of art to each one of you. (Faculty sponsors light their candles and then walk to each

member lighting their candle.)

Now the President will administer the pledge of Kappa Pi.

President: 

I hereby pledge to do my best to develop my potential as an artist or as an interpreter of art to

others. I pledge myself to help all student artists as much as I can, and to assist in training and

directing public opinion into a deeper understanding and appreciation of the arts.

I further pledge my best efforts to enhance my future environment for the aesthetic enrichment

of my fellow human beings.

I now declare you full fledged members of the Iota Chapter of Kappa Pi with all the honors and

responsibilities that are attached. Congratulations on this achievement.
