Kappa Pi - Membership

Please Note: Due to Supply Price Increases and Shipping Costs, The Cost of Membership, Regalia, and Shipping will be increasing starting September 1, 2023.
While we have worked hard to keep costs down, the last few years have seen significant increases in prices for materials and shipping and the past model is no longer sustainable.

All orders under $100 will be charged a $20 shipping fee. We currently ship everything via USPS Priority Mail. We are looking into less expensive alternatives and hope to have an update about this very soon.

MEMBERSHIP

Selection for Membership in Kappa Pi

To become a member of Kappa Pi, one must first meet the minimum requirements:

Completion of 12 semester hours in visual art courses (studio, art history, design, etc.)
Attainment of an overall "B" average in all art courses
An overall academic average of "C"
Produces outstanding work

If one meets these minimum requirements then he/she is eligible for membership in Kappa Pi. Students may be selected for membership in Kappa Pi by:

Nomination by several faculty members of the art department, and/or:
Portfolio review
**Art history majors are chosen primarily based on their academic standing.
**Each chapter can determine how members are admitted based on review of their work provided the minimum guidelines are met

Portfolio evaluation criteria could include ratings on the quality of work, content, craftsmanship and the presentation of each work. This portfolio evaluation criteria should be communicated with the students before their work is submitted for consideration.

Membership & Fees

INITIATES or NEW MEMBERS | $30 initiation/$15 annually

The students who are new to the organization and who are being inducted into a chapter will pay $30.00 their first year. Initiates/New Members will receive a membership certificate, pin, and will be considered active members for one year.

The $30.00 fee is considered as initiation and first year dues. Following their first year, these students may opt to become Returning Members.

RETURNING MEMBERS | $15 annually

Active members are those students who have previously paid an initiation fee and have been inducted into a chapter. To remain in an active status and qualify for the Kappa Pi Scholarship competition and other benefits, students and chapter officers must pay this annual fee.

FACULTY | $15 annually

Any faculty member wishing to hold membership will be considered active upon payment of $10.00 dues annually. No initiation fee is required.

FACULTY SPONSORS | No dues required

A limit of two faculty members to act as sponsors is requested in order to help facilitate communication between local chapters and the Kappa Pi International offices.

ALUMNI | $15 annually

This category includes members of the organization who have received their degree, and who wish to remain to remain as active members of Kappa Pi.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER | $30 initiation/$15 annually

Community persons or educational faculty other than art can receive membership with a local chapter by following the same procedures as a student initiate: $25.00 upon initiation and $10.00 after the first year.

HONORARY MEMBER | No dues required

Given to Nationally and Internationally recognized artists/craftsmen. Names are presented
to the president and Board for vote.

Types of Payments

PAYMENTS CAN BE ACCEPTED THROUGH PAYPAL

Your invoice will contain a link for you to submit payment. You do not need to have a PayPal account to complete your payment.

Chapters may pay the entire invoice or ask their individual members to pay their portion of the invoice through the link included with the PayPal invoice.

Please note that orders will not ship until an invoice is paid in full, so if a chapter decides to pay in this fashion it is dependent upon every member paying their dues directly to Kappa Pi International.

Costs

New Memberships/Initiates: $30 (Includes: first year dues, membership certificate, and a Kappa Pi Pledge Pin)

Returning Members: $15

Honor Cords: $15 each

Kappa Pi Pledge Pins: $10 each

Replacement Certificates: $15 each

Orders less than $100 will be charged a shipping and handling fee of $20 to help mitigate our expenses.

Therefore, in order to avoid shipping costs added to your invoice, we strongly advise combining orders under the umbrella of a chapter.

Any printing errors on membership certificates that are a result of incorrect information submitted to Kappa Pi will incur a small processing charge to cover the costs of printing and shipping a replacement certificate. We will, of course, happily replace any certificate free of charge that contains errors that are our fault.

Those students new to the organization and who are being inducted into the chapter will pay $30.00 their first year. Initiates will receive a membership certificate and Kappa Pi pin. The $30.00 fee is considered an initiation fee and first year dues.

To submit your annual roster, please fully and accurately fill out the form to the right. Be sure to check the spelling of all new initiates’ names, as the spelling provided here will be used on their certificates. Any required certificate reprints due to spelling mistakes on this form will incur a small fee. All certificates and pledge pins for new members will be mailed to the faculty sponsor before the initiation ceremony, but please allow up to two weeks for the certificates to arrive.

To request honor cords, simply include the quantity needed on the last line of this form before pressing submit. The cords cost $15.00 each and will be mailed with the certificates and pins to the address listed on the form.

The fiscal year for Kappa Pi is from September 1 to May 31 of any year. However, we process memberships throughout the year. Memberships are valid for one year from the date of their purchase. Chapters may hold initiation ceremonies at any point in the year, at the discretion of their university, department, and chapter sponsors.

Alumni Membership

Alumni membership is $15.00 annually.

Lifetime Membership

The Lifetime membership contribution of $250.00 is made to the International Scholarship endowment. Lifetime members will receive a special certificate and digital access to our publications. Lifetime members are listed in each spring Sketchbook Publication. Membership is tax deductible.
